Where do services take place?

We bring therapy to you or you come to us! One of the benefits of Starlight Speech Therapy is that we travel to you and your child. Pediatric speech therapy can take place in the comfort and convenience of your own home, preschool, ABA center, private school, daycare, or library. Providing speech therapy in your child’s natural environment allows for increased generalization of skills, parent involvement, and flexibility!

What are the benefits of having speech and/or occupational therapy in my home or child’s school?

Accepted Answer

You may have initially thought you had to take your child to a clinic for speech therapy or occupational therapy, but the option to have a speech/occupational therapist come to your home or child’s school is an advantageous one. Being in the comfort of their home or classroom tends to increase a child’s willingness to engage and participate. Additionally, the  therapist is able to address communication and fine motor challenges during real-life activities and routine. When combined with the therapist's expertise and family’s commitment, therapy in the natural environment leads to faster progress.

How will I know what you worked on if you see my child at their school?

One of our core values is family partnership. Even if you’re not able to attend speech therapy sessions regularly, we still want you to feel connected and involved in your child’s progress. After each session, you'll receive an emailed summary that includes what we worked on, how your child did, and suggestions for home practice. Our goal is to keep you informed every step of the way!

How much does therapy cost?

We understand that speech and occupational therapy can be a financial investment and because of this, we aim to provide the highest level of individualized therapy. Our goal is to help your child quickly acquire the skills they need so they don’t need to spend years in therapy. While the duration of each child’s therapeutic journey is different, when a therapist’s specialty area matches your child’s needs, faster progress and decreased overall cost can be achieved. We accept Colorado Medicaid as well as CHP+

How does payment work?

At this time, Starlight Speech Therapy is a private-pay and we also accept Colorado Medicaid and CHP+. For private pay we accept the following payment methods: cash, check, credit card, health savings account, and flexible savings account. Payment is due at the time of service. Private pay options allow for flexibility and creative solutions when providing services. Insurance companies often dictate the number and duration of services and occasionally do not cover speech services at all. By accepting private pay options, we do not require referrals or prior authorizations. We are able to provide the necessary documentation needed for HSA and FSA coverage. We are currently not in network with any contracting insurance company. Starlight Speech Therapy can provide a Superbill which would allow a client to seek potential reimbursement of services through insurance benefits. The family would be required to verify with their insurance company if this is an option.  For Medicaid clients, I will work directly with you and your provider to obtain the necessary prior authorization. Once all required documentation is in place, I will submit it for approval. After authorization is granted, I will bill Medicaid following each session

Is an evaluation needed?

Yes—an evaluation is required unless your child has had a comprehensive speech-language evaluation completed by a licensed speech-language pathologist within the last six months. Please provide a copy of the most recent assessment report and any relevant treatment notes (including a school-based IEP, if applicable) for review. If your child was recently screened by me at a local preschool, a full evaluation may not be necessary, as I may already have sufficient information to guide the next steps.

Can my child receive speech and/or occupational services both through the school district and privately?

Definitely! Students can participate in services through Starlight Speech Therapy in addition to school-based IEP services. Given permission, we can also communicate with your child’s school-based SLP or OT to get on the same page about helping your child achieve their goals. Starlight Speech Therapy can also offer treatment to children who would benefit from speech services but may not qualify for school services due to the strict criteria needed to qualify.
